Research Clusters

Research in the Department of Sociology is diverse but, at the same time, coheres around five central foci:

  • Critical Political Thought, Activism and Alternative Futures
  • Globalisation, Identities and Cultural Practices
  • Historical and Comparative Sociology
  • Political Economy, Work and Working Lives
  • Urban/Suburban Studies

These clusters are envisaged as centres of intellectual engagement and research collaboration within the department as well as vehicles for postgraduate recruitment and training. They link well with areas of research priority within the university and with cognate departments (see Table 1).
