Postgraduates

Welcome to our postgraduate information pages. We have a large and growing postgraduate community of over thirty research students in addition to students following our taught MA programmes. If you are interested in purusing postgraduate studies there are a number of different choices so please take some time to look over these pages and come talk to us to see which are the best options for you.

We have three one year taught MAs in the Department of Sociology or you can choose to pursue a two year supervised research degree leading to an MLitt or a four year supervised research degree leading to a PhD. Part-time postgraduate research is also possible. From September 2010 PhD students will also follow a structured PhD programme which means they will take some taught modules alongside other PhD students as well as pursuing their own individual research project.

If you are interested in pursuing a research postgraduate in either sociology or politics please read our postgraduate research pages. You should also browse the research pages of our staff to identify someone who might be suitable to be your supervisor. Please make contact with a potential supervisor before you apply to the department.
